4 Reasons Why Instagram Reels Aren't Going Anywhere

Written by Alanna Moore

Any Instagram user has definitely noticed that Reels are taking over the platform. First introduced in 2020, Instagram Reels have become the new “it” thing — it looks like it’s bye-bye single photos and hello to short 15, 30, 60, or 90-second videos. Some seem frustrated by this shift, while others are choosing to embrace it. No matter which side of the debate you’re on, here are four reasons this new form of posting has become so important in recent times.

The Platform-wide Reels Tab

If you’re looking for ways to have a bigger reach on Instagram, Reels are where it’s at. There’s a much higher chance of you ending up on someone’s Explore page when you post a Reels rather than a regular post since Instagram likes to reward people who promote this new feature by creating content with it. And a tab specifically dedicated to Reels provides you with even more opportunities to get your short video noticed.

Higher Engagement

With more reach, one can also expect more engagement, especially with new people. So, if you’re looking to get discovered by people outside of your typical circle on Instagram, posting more Reels is sure to help you succeed in this goal. Plus, since your Reels have a higher chance of making it to people’s Explore page, there’s a higher chance of the followers you already have liking, saving, or commenting on your clip.

More Room For Creativity

Whether you’re creating content for your personal account or a business account, Reels provide you with the opportunity to make unique content, thanks to the addition of audio, AR effects, different speeds, and the timer function. Rather than just a plain photo, you can showcase your personality or that of a brand way more effectively with a Reel. And let’s be honest, a little authenticity on this app always goes a long way.

A New Way To Collaborate And Create

One of the best things about Instagram is definitely its ability to connect people from all over the world. And in July 2022, the app upgraded its Remix feature for Reels, giving you more ways to collaborate and create. The updates included being able to remix public photos, additional Remix layouts including a green screen, horizontal or vertical split-screen, or picture-in-picture reaction view, and allowing your clip to play sequentially after the original clip. Remixing Reels is an exciting way to reach larger and more niche audiences — and possibly get noticed by your favourite influencers or celebrities.
