Women-Owned Businesses In The Creative Industry

Written by Trinity Duong

International Women’s Day is a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day reminds us to call for action for equality between all genders. Groups come together to recognize women’s achievements and/or rally for women’s equality. Marked this year on March 8th, 2021, International Women’s Day is one of the most important days in elevating and shining a light on the achievements of women, and today at Brand’s Media Group we want to honor and acknowledge some incredible women-owned businesses. Our team has banded together to identify some female-owned businesses that we have discovered through our individual and interpersonal connections as well as international experience.

1) Shop Teeks

Shop Teeks is owned by Victoria Dantico. Her small business is a Montreal-based online fashion boutique. Dantico began learning how to sew at a very young age and has mastered re-working vintage pieces. From this experience, she knew she always wanted to do something more personal to her style and taste. She transformed her passion into her career by pursuing her dreams of curating her fashion collection. Shop Teeks was created to provide their customers with unique pieces that are stylish, trendy, and affordable. Their main goal was to provide superior quality clothing and Shop Teeks has done this by sourcing and producing ninety percent of their collection in the United States. Dantico expresses that she struggled immensely with finding versatile and chic ensembles that can be played down for a day look of elevated for a night outfit and this search fueled her to take matters into her own hands and creating Shop Teeks. Her business has grown immensely since its launch in March of 2020 and only continues to take off even more.

You can reach Shop Teeks through their Instagram @shopteeks or their website

2) Hey Honey!

Hey Honey! is a woman-owned business that seeks to create a world where honey is pure, consumers are knowledgeable, and beekeepers are responsible. They believe whole-heartedly that all honey should be synonymous with natural. This allows Hey Honey!’s products to come straight from the hive into your home. Their products are locally produced in Israel and they collaborate with responsible bee farms that ensure the bees are well-kept, unharmed, and joyful. Hey, Honey only co-operates with beekeepers that produce a sustainable and eco-friendly environment and production process. Bees are treated as well as family with Hey Honey because they believe that it not only produces better honey but a better world. They offer 350G jars that contain only the best that honey can offer. Being locally sourced as well as gluten-free, kosher, and delicious you can count on Hey Honey to satisfy your honey cravings.

Opal & Tourmaline is a female-owned business created by Morgan Jamie. Opal and Tourmaline are the two birthstones of October and as the brand’s founder was born during this month it ensured a personal connection that resonated with a deeper meaning and beauty. Opal symbolizes confidence, love, and passion, and Tourmaline is known as a receptive stone that symbolizes calmness and healing and promoted meditation and wisdom and together these stones represent Morgan completely. Her healing journey began on an Opal & Tourmaline mat that she designed for herself and she felt a sudden urge and need to share her experiences with anyone who may be in the same situation. 4) Kiskeya Studio

Kiskeya is a portrait and lifestyle photography studio that was founded by Ashley Camilien. They create and produce incredible work as well as teach workshops on how to create. Her work accurately portrays the BIPOC community and ten percent of the profits go towards black-owned non-profits. Kis Keya began in August of 2020 and is a collective of creative subcontractors who are committed to collaborating, innovating, and participating in the positive representation of people from ethnocultural communities. The studio is called Kiskeya because it is one of the names used to identify the island of Hispaniola commonly known as the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
