New Year, New Socials
Written by Trinity Duong
With the new year approaching so quickly and this year having seemed like the worst we could have possibly received there’s no doubt that your social media took a hit along with everything else. With the lack of travel or ability to go outdoors, lockdown and confinement has stopped us from living the lives we love to show off so much. Rather we are left with quarantine bodies and no ability to feel the freedoms we once had.
When approaching 2021 we reflect on nearly a year of Covid 19 and the elements that strained us for months on end. Our social media may have fallen behind due to this and many are running out of throwback pics to post. When keeping ourselves up to date in the media our present day life must remain a focal point as we continue to evolve and change each day. As the new year approaches many can be seen setting new goals and rebranding their lifestyles as a result of this.
A huge challenge for the upcoming year is to rebrand yourself on social media. Whether it stems from business prospects or a simple style aesthetic switch, there are endless possibilities that can further our presence on the internet
Below you will find a few easy things to try in order to keep your social media interesting in the new year.
1) Finding Your Theme
Depending on what your target audience is it’s important to theme yourself accordingly. To find your theme identify things you enjoy and don’t limit yourself! If you’re interested in fashion start surrounding your Instagram around new trendy stores or boutiques while always keeping up on new trends and evolving your own personal style. If your interested in nature ensure your Instagram has an earthy toned aesthetic and share all your natural resources for a more sustainable lifestyle. Engage your followers to practice your values and morals and you will be closer and closer to attaining and maximizing your audience goals.
There are also an unconscious number of sub genres that you can market in order to get a really specific niche of people that appreciate all your content.
2) Curating A Harmonious Feed
After finding your theme, ensuring your feed has a collective feel is extremely important and can serve you so well in curating a wider network. It serves as your first impression and when your feed looks put together so does your energy and aesthetic. The experiences you have perfectly organized present your ability to brand yourself and gives viewers a sense of passion and structure.
A few ways to do this is to ensure that you keep your colours and noise at the same level. If you have a lot going on in the background of one photo and less in the following it’s important to balance out this compilation with something more middle ground. Colours are also a huge indicator for the theme and present a design that’s pleasing for the eyes. You can plan this simply by picking out colours you’d like for your feed and editing and taking photos in primarily those hues.
3) Networking
The biggest way to rebrand yourself is to pull inspiration from those in your community. When you find your theme it’s easy to find other creators who love what you do just as much as you. Reaching out and networking with people that have the same fondness for your experiences can broaden your understanding of your own style and inspire you to enrich your goals.
By forming a community on Instagram you entirely rebrand yourself for the New Year due to its expansion of your creative visions as well as global personal and professional relationships.
This year is a fresh start and while we still carry a huge burden that we’d rather leave in the past rebranding your social media to create a better and clearer version of the new you can leave you feeling reinvigorated and revitalized for whatever 2021 has to throw at you.
