How to Use Emojis in Your Business' Posts

Written by Alanna Moore

Making relatable copy can help your business get new followers and keep the old ones reminded of why they love to support your company. One way to make your post’s copy more engaging and nice to look at is by using emojis. Just like most people nowadays love using emojis while texting, they can also be used in your brand’s posts! Emojis have the ability to convey emotions, add a little humour to your message, and make your brand more relatable to your audience — here are some ways we at Brand’s Media Group believe can use emojis properly.

Know your audience

Before you start using emojis in your posts, you have to know your audience and the type of emojis they relate to. A good way to find out? Make an Instagram story with a question box asking your followers for their most used emojis.

Use emojis for brand consistency

In the same vein of making sure your brand has a consistent colour palette, you can also choose emojis that help represent your brand. You can decide which emojis fit your business’ message and purpose, and consistently use those when writing your copy, responding to comments, and in personal messages with people from your audience.

Don’t overuse emojis

Emojis can give your posts personality, but you want to make sure to use them sparingly. Your post may appear unprofessional and all over the place if you use too many emojis — so use them wisely!

Use emojis to enhance your message

Emojis can be used to emphasize or complement the point you’re trying to get across in your post. Let’s say you’re promoting a sale, the money bag or sale tag emoji makes sense as an addition to your post. If you're sharing a loving message, you can use a heart emoji. You want to make sure to use emojis that match the tone of your message.

Don't use emojis inappropriately

This point is very important! Whenever you’re posting something on one or more of your brand’s social media platforms, be aware of cultural differences and the meanings behind different emojis. Different cultures have different meanings for certain emojis, and some may even be viewed as offensive. Emojis should only be used when suitable and in ways that won't offend or alienate your audience. So, be mindful when choosing the emojis you want to include.

All in all, if emojis are used properly, they can help amplify your message and add character to your business’ posts.
