How To Make An NFT
Written by Trinity Duong
What is so innovative about non-fungible tokens is that everyone has the ability to create one. Often people get imposter syndrome when it comes to creating art because they don’t recognize themselves as an artist but when it comes to NFT’s practically anyone can produce one. Previously in our article “What’s The Hype Around NFT’s” we talked about the obsession that is NFT’s and what it is. To get your basic knowledge about what it is we recommend you check our that article.
Because practically anything can be an NFT, from tweets to digital artwork. For digital artwork, there's a range of softwares you can use. Some of the most notable ones include:
1) Blender
Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software tool set that is used to create animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, motion graphics, interactive 3D applications, virtual reality, and computer games. Blender features 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, soft body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, rendering, motion graphics, video editing, and compositing. For beginners, we recommend watching Blender Guru.
2) MediBang Paint
MediBang Paint is a free illustration and manga production software and painting software. What’s the best about MediBang Paint is that it can connect to your Blender file in order to create different designs on your 3D animations.
3) Krita
Krita is a free and open-source raster graphics editor that was created primarily for digital painting and 2D animation. You can find it on Windows, macOS, Linus, Android, and Chrome OS. Its features include OpenGL-accelerated canvas, color management support, an advanced brush engine, non-destructive layers and masks, group-based layer management, vector artwork support, and switchable customization profiles.
After creating your art you have to make it a token. The proper term for tokenizing a digital file is minting. Using cryptography the process of tokenization turns an asset into a digital token that can be moved stored, and recorded on the blockchain. To do this you have to decide on the platform that you want to use. OpenSea and Rarible are the most commonly used.
1) OpenSea
OpenSea uses the Ethereum and Polygon blockchain. It is relatively easy to use for all types of NFTs. A creator can upload their artwork, “mint” it to their profile, and list it for sale without paying a fee. When a collector buys the work, they pay the fee.
2) Rarible
Rarible uses the Ethereum, Flow, and Tezoa blockchain. What’s different about Rarible is that they have the ability to enable a tool that gives a “sneak peek” of your creation to the people that come across it but the full to purchasers only.
These are just two sites you could use. Other recommendations are Objkt and Holaplex.
Once you choose your platform, connect and build a community. The easiest way to do this is through social media platforms and gaming platforms such as Discord.
This is an easy rundown of how to create your own NFT and mint it. Let us know if you try it out and how you’re liking the internet’s latest obsession.
