Welcoming Noemie to BMG

As the Brand’s Media Group continues to grow it has become a staple tradition to produce introduction interviews to get our community familiar with who will be taking care of all their questions and concerns. Today we will be welcoming Noemie Nercessian to the team as our newest community manager!

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Montreal, CA and I am somewhat so thankful for it. I was able to learn two languages (English & French) on top of my first language which is Armenian. The older I got the more I realize that Montreal's beauty lies in its diversity and culture. I find it truly amazing to be part of a city that celebrates inclusivity and actively tries to create change in society.

Where did you go to school? What did you study?

From the age of 3 to 17 I went to the same Armenian school called "École Arménienne Sourp Hagop". I grew up with the same 50 kids and was stuck in the same world year after year. Although I loved having an extended family and a deep knowledge of my culture and where I come from, I felt trapped because I was always surrounded by the same people.

As soon as I left high school for college at Dawson, I had this "culture shock" on all the different cultures and people I missed out on all these years. It opened my eyes to new possibilities, new friends, and new traditions. I chose Dawson because only three students from the school were admitted there. I was ready to step out into the "real" world and meet new people.

At the moment, I am currently at Concordia University studying Human Relations. I love my program and all the learnings I am gaining from it. I believe in what I am learning and love putting it into practice. I have another year of schooling to go until I graduate!

Who is your biggest inspiration?

This is a tricky question for me. I can choose the obvious answer which is my dad who fled from Lebanon because of the war and was able to open up a business and provide for his family. Instead, I am choosing to talk about my boyfriend. He is a 24-year-old who is trying to start a business in the car/garage industry. He doesn't come from a wealthy family nor parents who support his every move. He has a dream to become successful by doing what he loves and that's all that he needed. He inspires me to keep working harder, to always set goals in life, and to never say never. He is one of the hardest working men I have ever seen and it just really makes me proud to call him my boyfriend.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

On September 27, Azerbaijan launched a full-scale offensive along the line of contact in Artsakh, as well as the Republic of Armenia's internationally recognized borders. Armenia was at war with Azerbaijan over a territory that was populated by mostly Armenians. My two friends and I founded a non-profit organization to help raise awareness and give back to my community during those tragic events. We sold mask chains and donated our profits to an organization. On December 25, 2020, we raised 2000$. I was so proud of what my friends and I were able to do given that we all had part-time jobs and were still full-time students. We hope that we can one day get back together and raise money for another cause but at the moment, life is just getting in the way.

What inspired you to apply to Brand's Media Group?

It's simple. My love and passion for social media. As I love the program I am currently studying in, I do see myself working in social media as my career in life. This was my perfect opportunity to grow in this field and work with an amazing team where I was only going to learn new tools.

How can you see BMG changing your perspective on work/life?

I have a feeling that BMG is going to push me harder and help me grow in the industry. I feel like I am finally going to understand what it feels like to do what you love and not feel like you are "working". I can't wait to see how my perspective is going to change as I embark on this new journey.

How does being part of the BMG team feel?

It feels very welcoming and exciting. I can already tell that I am going to feel supported and have a safe space to share my opinions & my ideas. I am so thrilled to be part of an amazing group of women who have only shown me lots of kindness.
