Get Ready for Zoom Calls with us

Written by Noyonika Sircar

Zoom has become a part of our daily lives. The question that has been haunting us is “what do we wear on Zoom?” To be honest, the pandemic has made us internalize the work from home culture as an element of our daily lives but we are still lost in our way to adapt to the new normal, how do we be presentable for Zoom?

Even though we have reasons piled up that make us feel more and more reluctant to be actively involving ourselves with the Zoom life, what angle looks the best, and several doubts on the online etiquette to conduct ourselves when Zoom switches on, we have somehow navigated with the flow. If you are still hesitant, let team BMG walk you through a few easy tips!

When Sharon Brand launched BMG during the pandemic, she readily approached this way of life and lead her team through it. She adds, “BMG started and launched and as much as I miss having physical contact with colleges, I also really enjoy being able to work in the comfort of my own home.” For her style, Sharon puts a bit of concealer, some blush, mascara, and highlight to have a minimal, natural, glow. She also bought a Ring Light a month ago which she uses if she wants the lighting to be brighter. As for her outfit, she slips into a cute blouse or a top and wears her sweats, the best part of zoom. Lastly, Sharon shares that since there are no rules with Zoom meetings now, “you get to wear whatever you are comfortable in!”

Trinity, our contributor writer likes to keep things simple. She says, “in a more professional setting I’d sit at my desk and make sure I look good but I don’t do anything intricate.”

Jasmine, our community manager keeps things perfect like her. She believes to always have the camera at eye level. She puts books under Meath on her laptop and changes Zoom settings to make her skin perfect. Also, she suggests putting earphones in if you can’t control background noise.

For keeping things glamorous, Annabelle, our community manager, finds a place with good lighting (sit in front of a window or a ring light!). She thinks that there is no need to wear a dressy shirt, but make sure to wear something not too casual.

A few quick tips from Annabelle :
- If you wear pajamas, pair them with a cardigan or a blazer to appear more put together.
- Make sure you’re alone in the room to avoid distracting others with conversations in the back or people walking in an out of the frame. Always enter the zoom link a little earlier (1-2 minutes) to make sure you’ll be attending on time because sometimes it takes a little longer to launch.

Lastly, Sharon Brand, BMG’s visionary leader likes to work remotely. “It’s just about trusting one another!”
